Cherry

Apulian fruit and vegetables, telling your tables the story of our land.

Cherries are the fruit of the summer season, red, sweet and juicy, one pulls the other for so much flavor and goodness!

The fruit, in fact, firm, bruise-free and with a bright green stem are perfect for children’s snacks or for a really yummy dessert when dipped in melted dark chocolate.

Apulia is among the leading regions for the production of cherries and in particular the Ciliegia Ferrovia, an indigenous variety originating in the Murge region, much appreciated by markets and consumers for the fruit’s fine characteristics. The fruit is large in size, heart-shaped, vermilion-red skin, pink flesh and elongated stalk. Excellent flesh texture, with intense, sweet and juicy flavor. The average late ripening period is between the first and second decade of June.

On the farms of the Producers’ Organization “La Preferita O.P.ugliese” in addition to the characteristic cultivar Ferrovia, the varieties Bigarreaux, Giorgia, Lapins, Celeste and those of the Sweet group are also cultivated.

Production period: May to July (depending on variety)
